How much do movers cost in Dallas? Our real rates for 2026

Most moving-cost articles quote national averages. This one shows what we actually charge in Dallas–Fort Worth, how the crew size is set, and what makes a move take longer, so you can estimate your own move before you call anyone.

Local moves: $69 per mover and $28 per truck, per hour

Moves within Dallas–Fort Worth are billed by the hour. The hourly rate is the number of movers times $69, plus the number of trucks times $28. The crew size comes from the size of the home, and any move that needs five or more movers gets a second truck.

The hours are our typical range for Dallas–Fort Worth moves. A studio usually lands at the low end of the 1-bedroom range. Homes with four or more bedrooms vary too much in crew size to price from size alone, so we price them from a video estimate or a home visit.

  • Studio or 1 bedroom: 2 movers and 1 truck, $166 an hour. Usually 2–4 hours, about $332–$664
  • 2 bedrooms: 3 movers and 1 truck, $235 an hour. Usually 3–6 hours, about $705–$1,410
  • 3 bedrooms: 4 movers and 1 truck, $304 an hour. Usually 5–8 hours, about $1,520–$2,432
  • 4 bedrooms or more: usually 8–10 hours; crew size and price come from a video estimate or a home visit

Working out a total

The total is the hourly rate multiplied by the time the move takes. A 2-bedroom move at $235 an hour that takes five hours comes to $1,175; the same move finished in four hours is $940. That is why the things that change the hours matter more than the rate itself.

A move coordinator confirms what is included before move day, so the number you plan around is the number you pay against.

What makes a Dallas move take longer

Most of the difference between two moves of the same size is time spent carrying, not driving.

  • Stairs, long hallways and elevators that must be reserved or shared
  • How far the truck can park from your door, common in Uptown and other dense apartment areas
  • Packing that is not finished when the crew arrives
  • Furniture that has to be taken apart and reassembled
  • Heavy or awkward items such as pianos, safes and large mirrors
  • Distance between the two homes in DFW traffic

Long-distance moves out of Dallas–Fort Worth

Moves to another state are not billed by the hour. They are priced from what is moving and how far it is going. Our price guide below applies to most destinations from DFW; moves to the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest are priced per move. A written estimate from a video survey, an itemized inventory or a home visit replaces the guide with a firm number.

These are guides, not quotes. Distance, the season, and how much you actually own move the number in both directions.

  • Studio: about $1,600 to $2,200
  • 1 bedroom: about $1,800 to $2,400
  • 2 bedrooms: about $2,000 to $2,600
  • 3 bedrooms: about $3,000 to $3,900
  • 4 bedrooms or more: priced from a video estimate or a home visit

Getting a firm price instead of a guide

For an interstate move, federal rules require a written estimate based on a physical or virtual survey of your belongings. A binding estimate fixes the price for the items listed; under a non-binding estimate, the mover cannot demand more than 110 percent of the estimate at delivery.

The fastest way to a firm number from us is a video estimate: you film each room on your phone and we count every item, so there is nothing to guess at on move day.
