Moving to a new home can be an incredibly stressful event, especially when you have hundreds of items to wrap and pack in the few weeks prior. Our residential moves are some of the best in the business, thanks to their training and available tools.

Furniture Movers

When it comes to moving, furniture is usually the biggest problem most homeowners face. A couch is an unwieldy item that is hard to wrap in plastic and push through the front door. It takes a keen eye and a strong back to move such large pieces of furniture.

Our residential movers know exactly how to safely and securely move furniture and load each piece onto the truck with ease. Let us handle the big stuff while you take care of the minute details of the move.

In transit, the majority of damage stems from vibrations and large items shifting in the truck. Furniture is a major reason for such shifting. Our residential movers will carefully pack each piece of furniture, so nothing slides around.

The Cost of Residential Moving

A move is a costly endeavor to undertake. At Green Van Lines, we offer our customers a comprehensive quote of our moving services before any work takes place.

A sales representative will inspect your home and all items being relocated, determining how many trucks and residential moves required for the job.

Once completed, we’ll let you know the exact cost to move you into a new home. You can bet we offer competitive, affordable pricing, though.

Residential Moves Checklist

Moving is a complicated process. Thankfully, you can do a few things to make sure your move goes as smoothly as possible. For example, you can plan ahead at least three months before your move date. There are peak seasons in the moving industry – usually late spring and summer.

Most moving companies are fully booked during this period. Consider planning your move for a slower season. You could save money while still enjoying professional service.

You should also make a checklist of each item you will not bring with you. While you might want to pack everything in the house, this is the perfect time to unload unwanted goods. Donate them to various organizations or charities.

Next, contact schools, doctors, and lawyers for your personal records. Lastly, submit a change of address to the post office. Your personal moving checklist can be as detailed or as simple as you’d like. Just don’t forget these basics!

Affordable

Moving into a new home can be an overwhelming experience. You’re probably preoccupied by wondering if you’ll like your new location. You’re bracing yourself to be kept awake by the new home’s odd creaking noises.

On top of all this, you’re probably exhausted from packing. There are no two ways about it: moving is stressful. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be expensive.

At Green Van Lines, we aim to provide the most competent and professional moving services on the market at a price that homeowners can afford. We work hard to price each of our moving and packing services competitively.

Few local moving companies can match Green Van Line’s combination of quality, efficiency, and affordability. We’ll even provide a free quote when you call us to inquire about moving services. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying and why. We’re in this together!

Residential Moving Tips

There are countless reasons to move into a new home. Maybe you’re growing your family – or starting one! Perhaps you’d really like a backyard to enjoy the great weather. Whatever your situation, there are a few things you can do to prepare for a residential move.

First and foremost, do not wait until the last minute. A move takes time, and should be planned well in advance. If possible, begin your relocation preparation up to six months before the big day. During this time, pack each room separately.

Labeling your boxes will make the unpacking process easier and help you keep everything organized. You should also consider making a physical to-do list. You can pick up a spare notebook from a dollar store, and write down everything you need to accomplish before moving day.

A few things to put on this list include changing service providers, switching phone numbers, packing, and arranging transportation.

Planning for a Residential Move

Planning your move is the most significant feat you may accomplish before the big day. Being prepared and understanding what needs to be completed will help make each task easier in turn.

Of course, we cannot always prepare for everything. If possible, plan your move in Dallas and Fort Lauderdale outside of peak season (late spring and summer).

Most moving companies are booked full during the time, making it harder to find a mover you’d like to work with. Furthermore, walk through your entire home.

Do not leave any room unturned. Consider what you’d want to transport and what you’d prefer to sell or give away. Reducing clutter will make the trip more manageable, and unpacking will be far smoother.

At least two months before your move date, contact all schools, doctors, and accountants to obtain personal records. You’ll want to have a separate folder dedicated to such important documentation. You’ll also want to interview movers.

Then, one month before your big day, submit a change of address to the post office, prepare an inventory of packed items, and secure insurance.

Expert Residential Moving Services

The cost of moving has risen in recent years. With new opportunities cropping up throughout the country, more and more families are seeking their futures in new homes. If this describes you, make sure you don’t empty the bank to get where you need to go.

At Green Van Lines, we provide exceptional moving services at cost-effective prices. We do recommend moving outside of peak season (late spring through the end of summer) to keep costs as low as possible.

Before any move, we’ll provide you with a quote for our services. This will include labor, materials, transport, and any associated fees. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying and why before we begin any work. This allows you to shop around! We set our prices competitive because we want you to save money on your move.

A Checklist for Your Next Residential Move

Moving day is fast approaching and now is the time to plan ahead. There are so many small details to keep track of during a relocation, and it’s easy to let things fall through the cracks.

Avoid unnecessary setbacks during your residential move by adhering to the following checklist in chronological order.

  • Schedule an estimate with reliable movers and come up with a budget for the entire move. Be sure to thoroughly research all the moving companies in your area before making a hiring decision. Do this as far in advance as possible.

  • Catalog all of your expenses religiously so you can stick to your planned budget. Don’t just estimate costs; keep track of all the receipts and estimates you receive so you can more accurately calculate your moving costs.

  • Go through your entire house and get rid of anything that you won’t need in your new home. There’s no need to pack extra items that are unnecessary.

  • Plan your moving date carefully; take weather, holidays, and other time constraints into consideration. Then, secure the date with the moving company of your choice.

  • Decide if you will pack your belongings yourself or if you will hire a company to handle it. If you are packing on your own, plan more than enough time for the monumental task.

  • Set up all of the utilities in your new home and disconnect them in your old residence. This may mean calling all of your utility providers, from your cable company to your electricity company.

  • Discontinue your delivery services. You don’t want your newspapers and mail going to the wrong house.

  • Notify the post office about your move and fill out an official change of address form. You may also need to individually contact other businesses about your move, like your bank, insurance company, doctor, and more.

  • Double-check everything with your moving company. This includes payments, potential extra charges, dates, times, and any other important details.

If you’re planning a residential move in the DFW area, skip the hassle of researching dozens of moving companies and contact Green Van Lines.

Their professional movers offer their trustworthy skills at an affordable price and guarantee that your move will go smoothly. Do yourself a favor and call 888-770-4733 today to book your big move.

The Easy Checklist for Changing Your Address

The time has finally come! You’re finally done unpacking every moving crate at your new apartment or home. Now, you’ve got the address on your mailbox, but no one knows where you live. It’s time to change your address officially.

For those who have never changed their address, it can be a confusing, stressful experience. Here is how to officially change your address after a move!

Changing Your Mailing Address

First and foremost, you’ll need to update your address with the United States Postal Service. For many, this is the first and last step.

The USPS keeps a record of your residential address and automatically forwards mail to the new address for a period of six months. From there on out, everything should run smoothly.

Changing your address online

  • Visit the Postal Service Change of Address website. The USPS will charge a $1 fee to verify your identity when changing a mailing address. You’ll require a credit or debit card for this part.
  •  Call 1-800-ASK-USPS. You will need to pay the $1 verification fee for an address change over the phone.
  • Ask for Form 3575 at your local post office. If you change your address in person, the verification fee is waived completely.

Now, it’s important to note that you only need to complete one of the above steps. Not all of them! Each one has the same result: changing your address.

Billing Address

You’ve now updated your address in the eyes of the postal service. However, your credit card companies didn’t get the notice. You’ll want to visit their online portal or call over the phone to update your billing address. If you fail to complete this step, you may receive penalty fees for not paying a bill that arrived at your old address.
